The White Sox dropped the series finale versus the Boston Red Sox, but they still managed to win the series. With the series win, the White Sox have now won 7 out of their last 11 games. The schedule looks favorable over the next few weeks, so hopefully the Sox can get on a roll.

Wednesday, May 22nd – Red Sox 6, White Sox 2

The White Sox offense was shut down by opposing starter Clay Buchholz. Buchholz has been brilliant all season and Wednesday night was no exception. He allowed one run on five hits, three walks, and recorded four strikeouts. It would have been nice to get the sweep, but there is no shame to losing to a pitcher that is 7-0, with a 1.73 ERA and 1.05 WHIP. Paul Konerko provided most of the offense with a 2-for-4 night, including his 5th home run of the season. Konerko has been off to an extremely slow start, so maybe this will get him going a bit.

Hector Santiago went to the mound trying to build his case for staying in the rotation. With John Danks slated to start tonight, the Sox will need to move either Santiago or Dylan Axelrod to the bullpen. Santiago labored early, but he was able to pitch six innings of two-run ball. The southpaw struck out nine batters, allowed three hits and issued four walks. Santiago has now made five starts this season, and he has an impressive 31 K’s in 27.1 IP with a 2.96 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. His performance as a starter leaves manager Robin Ventura with a very difficult decision to make.

Record: 21-24, 4th place in AL Central (5.0 games back)

Up Next: The White Sox welcome the Miami Marlins (13-34) to town for a three-game series.

Friday, May 24th at 7:10pm CT: John Danks (0-0, -.--) vs. Tom Koehler (0-2, 2.82 ERA)

Saturday, May 25th at 6:15pm CT: Jake Peavy (5-2, 3.31 ERA) vs. Ricky Nolasco (3-5, 3.96 ERA)

Sunday, May 26th at 1:10pm CT: Dylan Axelrod (2-3, 4.13 ERA) vs. Alex Sanabia (3-6, 4.56 ERA)

Prediction: The Marlins are awful. If the White Sox are ever going to get back to .500 and contend, then they need to sweep this series. Sox sweep Marlins.
